Introduction
“Get up stand up, stand up for your life” – Bob Marley
- Who am I?
- What do I want to be when I grow up?
- How do I become the leader of my life?
Youth today face uncommon pressures to perform, to conform, to take responsibility, and to make important, life-changing decisions at an early age. As they are asked to select a life-path, school, a job, a future for themselves, they are also inundated with advice.
Cultivating Your Leadership Potential offers a new possibility for walking into the world. This dynamic program helps youth learn how to manage themselves in the midst of change and chaos and how to manage conflict.
Participants develop self-knowledge, self-respect, and self-confidence; and create a set of practices that support them in taking responsibility for their lives – to become their future. The opportunity to flourish in life comes from the development of leading a life of choice. Participants grow into young adults ready to take effective action toward a positive future.
As a participants they will learn:
- To manage yourself and stay grounded in stressful situations
- To recognize your strength and capacity
- To have an awareness of the effects of your mood and how to shift your mood
- To take a stand for what you know is right and for the good of the community you live in
- To make good choices and create success
- To say “NO” even when uncomfortable
- To fulfill on promises when you say “YES”
- To hold yourself with dignity
The program activities enable participants to get to know themselves and each other, to create an environment of safety and respect, to acknowledge differences, and to work together effectively. To sustain new behaviors learned, additional support is provided following the three interactive days of training in the form of group coaching (twice a month for 3 months.)
